If there’s one thing that’s as varied and numerous as snoring sounds, it’s snoring cures. In fact, there are so many snoring cures it’s difficult to pick one treatment to stick to. These snoring cures vary in risk, effectiveness, and methods – from the Stop Snoring Exercise Program which focuses on natural and easy techniques in dealing with snoring to medical procedures that may be invasive or non-invasive. How do these treatments work? Here’s a quick lowdown on some of them.
1. Mandibular advancement splints
This dental contraption works by advancing the lower jaw slightly, thus pulling the tongue forward. While it opens the mouth and the airways, thereby preventing snoring, it also comes with side effects, among them gum irritation, gradual teeth movement, and excessive salivation.
2. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine
This device injects controlled streams of air into a mask which covers either the mouth or the nose, or even both. As the air stream passes from the device to the mask, airways are kept open.
3. Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty
Of all snoring cures, this is the most invasive. Tissues found at the back of the throat are removed to widen airways. This procedure stops snoring, but at a trade-off. Possible pharyngeal damage and throat tissue scarring are two of the most significant possible complications.
With such weighty risks associated with surgery, it is thus not surprising that more and more people are opting for holistic, if not traditional, snoring cures. Should you jump on this bandwagon as well? Time – and experimentation – may tell.
