If you’re planning to do a detox, you’ll want to take some vitamin supplements that will support and cleanse your detoxing organs and really make your detox more effective. You will benefit from all six supplements but if you wish to try a broader clean there’s lots more nutritional products to add into your regime. If you decide to opt for the extras it is best to talk to a qualified nutritional practitioner.
Antioxidant products.
Milk Thistle.
Kelp drinks, juices or pills.
Essential oil blend (cold pressed seed oil consisting of omega 3 and 6).
Spirulina.
Chlorella.
What should you eat on your natural detox diet
Vegetables and Fruits
All fruits and veggies can be eaten but make sure you eat a broad range of them every day. This will mean you’ll receive a healthier range of each of the potent phytochemicals (beneficial plant substances).
You should eat at least 3 pieces of fruit a day. Vary your fruits selections by color to ensure you get a good variety of vitamins and antioxidants. You can be eating fruit all day, fruit deserts are great, for snacks in between meals or as freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. You can also have dried fruit, but not too much.
Try to eat three portions of veggies each day too.. Feel free to try every and all veggies as part of the detoxification process. At least one of your daily veggies should be a cruciferous vegetable (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, watercress or cauliflower) as these carry glucosinolates, which help support the liver’s detoxing properties – so they’re good for a liver detox also.
Try to eat your vegetables fresh and raw in salads but if do cook them just lightly steamed to get the most nutrients from them. Juicing vegetables is a great way to eat them as they make a great detox juice drink.
Watch Your Refined Carbs
Take a break from wheat and go for wheat free or wholegrain alternatives. Quinoa, millet, brown rice, organic wholegrain of wheat free bread, 100 per cent rye bread, pumpernickel bread, rye crackers, wheat-free and whole grain pasta and oatcakes are all eligible.
Oats contain smaller amounts of gluten than wheat so it’s OK to have them in your diet but can cause bloating if you’re prone to that or you’re allergic to gluten in anyway.
You get a lot of fiber from wholegrains, as well as most of the B vitamins and vitamin E, lots of minerals like selenium, zinc and magnesium, complex carbohydrate and small amounts of essential oils. All these different types of foods listed above, supply your body with "slow release" carbs, which fuel your body a lot longer. Your goal is to have one helping of whole grain food in each meal.
Pulses and sprouted beans
There’s lots of healthy protein in pulses, as well as B vitamins, zinc, iron and lots of fiber. For best results with pulses buy them dry, soak and cook them as per the directions on the pack. It’s handy to have a tin of pulses as back up but give them a good rinse in clean water if they have been stored in salt water.
It’s a good idea to have lots of different bean sprouts, beans and lentils on the detox diet. Sprouted beans in particular are excellent on a liver detox diet. They are rich in valuable enzymes, vitamins, minerals and vegetable protein. Sprouted beans are available from health food shops or most big supermarkets. Or if you prefer you could grow your own.
