First of all, there is no best weight loss program.  An effective weight loss regimen has to be tailored to the specific goals of the individual.  Do you want to lose 10lbs?  How about 30lbs?  Chances are there are different programs that would be most effective for each goal.

Diet is a large component of any weight loss program.  Key diet concepts that cross most all effective wieght loss plans are:

  • Increase fiber
  • Cut back or even eliminate trans and saturated fats
  • Increase intake of fruits and vegetables
  • Cut back on refined and processed sugars typically found in soda, candy, and pastries

Particular diet programs may focus on one or more of these tips, but any good one will share these basic concepts.  It’s the fad diets that you want to avoid.  The "eat all you want and lose weight", "six cookies a day and lose weight", and "three shakes a day and lose weight" types of hyped programs that are either unrealistic, unhealthy, or unsustainable.

The other key component of any effective weight loss program is exercise. An effective exercise program is probably the mostbeneficial step you can take in your goal to lose weight.  Once again, a program must be tailored to your own particular goals and schedule.  Do you want to build muscles?  Develop endurance?  Are you going to work out at the gym?  Or at home?  How many days a week do you have available to fit in a workout session?  All these questions must be answered before you can determine the right program.
